I love to shoot families, it’s something that has great meaning to me personally. I am shortly embarking on the first of many trips to continue this part of my work that will take me interstate and overseas. My only hope is that I continue to produce meaningful and honest work for those people entrusting me with these intimate moments.

We had a wonderful time on the beach, some people will recognise it. It’s the same spot where I shot our good friend Peta Grieve and her family last year, Peta has since sadly passed away. Rita is related to Peta which is how we came to meet under sad circumstances, the irony being that Peta’s love for her friends is still having an effect and will do so for many years to come I am sure of it.

I have new friends, I love these guys they were just good good fun. Enjoy.

The weather didn’t come to the party, it was quite terrible on the morning. Torrential infact. Still somewhere along the line I knew it would improve, it just had to right ?

Luckily it did and the day unfolded perfectly even with a slight hiccup of shoes size but that’s another story. Love, laughter and good times were shared by all who attended from near and far. It’s always fabulous when you get a feeling of being involved in something so special, it’s hard to put into words.

I have to say that I was completely in the dark about the ceremony so flowed along with what was happening, it was perfect for me. The people I met were wonderful and so warm hearted.

Thanks again to Natasha and also Vanessa and Scott for allowing me to be part of their special day. I really enjoyed myself.

I love this time of year. The harsh sun has left us, the light is dimming in the sky, the mornings are brisk and beautiful. Dew covers the ground and there’s a freshness to the air. We are truely blessed.

I find the early mornings strangely comforting, there’s something about the start of a new day. New possibilities and new beginnings maybe, I am not sure.

It was a solid day of learning and picking up new skills. The results were immediate, it was incredible to witness. Just a touch more confidence and an easy explanation of certain things that were confusing and the images were superb. I am so proud of them all.

I have received text messages saying ‘I stopped on the way home as I saw something to shoot’. This was what it was about, inspiring stuff.

"Cam Neville. Shutterbugs.."

I have become increasingly aware of this undercurrent of society that exists but is never mentioned, never talked about and is generally ignored by the media. In our day to day lives as photographers we are consumed with ‘Self’ and I am part of this too. It is hard not to be when you are self employed and trying to pay your mortgage, feed and cloth your children and send them to a school which will give them a good start in life. So yes, I sell myself and what talent I have is how we live or don’t live. Somewhere along the line though things changed for me. For the better. My wife is the most selfless person I know and something always tugs in me that she can do it without reward or praise, it is a divine quality, one I wished that I possessed.

Over the Easter Weekend a little child arrived in our life and house that made me think more then ever about what I am doing. I felt sad, angry and helpless. Probably all for myself. I just had to wonder how a modern society full of amazing technology, incredible minds and the power to do almost anything had not taken care of this child. I cannot go into specifics about it unfortunately but I stopped and thought long and hard. How had this happened ? And I cried alot, I had almost lost faith in humanity.

Then I saw Narell in action, she made phonecalls, talked for hours to people to clear the path and be an advocate for this child, to give them some hope, some chance in a society that seems to have forgotten about basic needs and wants. A champion has emerged from the shadows.

These children don’t need Ipads, Iphones, TV or anything else like that. They need a safe home where they can exist and just be a ‘Child’ without violence or trauma befitting them. Food that arrives on the table every night, someone to read them a story and give them a cuddle when they fall down. The simplest of things are what are required here.

My influences in photography have been many over the years, mostly photojournalists like Don McCullin, Tim Page, Larry Burrows, Robert Capa and Gary Winnogrand. Now though, I find my work is being more and more influenced by the work that my wife and I are doing away from photography, it is to seek out those honest heartfelt moments, the real stories, the real meaning behind why people are together. You see everyone has a special story.

And so, although I do not possess Narell’s selfless approach to the world, I cannot,  I have discovered that my quality lies in my work which provides the safe house, food and needs of all that live under this roof. This is now what drives me forward to share with my wonderful clients and friends, my photography has thankfully evolved to something new, something I can be proud of. Something that actually matters and goes beyond ‘The Image’.

"Cam Neville. The Change Up.."

I made the short trip up the mountain through the clouds and pouring rain, this was going to be interesting.

I’m lucky as I already know their boys really well and they are used to me walking around with my camera. Infact they were jumping infront of it and playing up, pulling faces and saying ‘Take a picture of me’. After a while they forgot I was there. Young minds require constant stimulation and so they were off zooming around the house looking for more mischief.

Jonny, Maria and I talked and drank coffee whilst I took photos, the atmosphere was warm and comfortable. They are genuine people, really caring and supportive, some of the best you’ll find.

We had a wonferful time in the house on what was a typical Sunday morning for them with food, coffee and playing with the boys. We ventured up the street to take ‘Reggie’ for a walk, this hound is all attitude and I love him. We quickly stopped to take some portraits and then headed back to the house as the heavens opened up on us. The second time in that week my gear had been soaked through, luckily with canon everything is weather sealed.
